Escaping Elo Hell and WINNING in Competitive Overwatch
If you've ever been stuck at a particular skill rating and been unable to climb out of that rank no matter what you do, you know exactly what Elo hell is like. In the short term, this might ring true, you might get 3 leavers in a row, or even worse, 33 throwers in a row. Circumstances may appear to be beyond your control, with a series of unfortunate events sending your Elo plummeting to the rank below.
Over the long run however, a few days or weeks, or even months, a player can climb out of Elo hell with the correct tips and following a few distinct methods, I've listed 5 basic tips below to climb out of "Elo hell".
These are my very easy to follow tips to escape your Overwatch Elo hell.
CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR RANK AND COMPETITIVE
Lots of players, myself included sometimes, get too focused on their SR and get frustrated it's dropping or thrilled if it's going up. You need to shift your focus from your SR and whether you're "going to win" or "going to lose" and get yourself in the mindset of identifying the factors that are causing the wins and losses.
JOIN THE TEAM VOICE CHANNEL
First things first, start every match by being in the voice channel. Being in the voice channel has a very strong impact on your chances of winning for two reasons:
1. It shows your squadmates you're ready to be a team player, listening to call outs, acting as a group and making sure you win your team fights.
2. It means less tilting of other team members, if they can see you're in the voice channel, they can communicate with you effectively and ensure you're doing the very best you can for your team. Joining comms will always give you an edge and improve your performance.
PLAY WITH AN OVERWATCH CARRY PRO
Another great way to gain much needed experience and ensure you're doing everything to the best of your ability is playing with a pro.
We offer great services like placement matches and SR boosting to get you over the hump and on to the elo you deserve to play at. If you're stick and not getting the progress you know you deserve because your team just isn't good enough, you can skip the frustrations and start playing with the team members you should have been all along.
PLAY WITH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK AND WITH RESPECT
In other words, don't get tilted.
Playing with teammates who aren't listening or aren't as good as you are can be a challenging situation to be in, however your attitude towards them can be the make or break situation deciding whether you win the match. If you stay calm and positive, encouraging them to try their hardest and offering tips, your chances of winning are astronomically higher than they would be if you were to become tilted and start raging at them for simply not being as good as you.
Don't ever snap at team mates, this will cause the exact opposite of what you want to happen to happen, a negative outlook is just as infectious as a positive one and your comments and outbursts can and likely will, send the whole team on a downward spiral towards a loss.
FOCUS ON YOU, AND ONLY YOU
While it can be annoying watching your team's performance suffer while you're doing your best at the end of the day you can't actually control them or what they do during a match, and getting frustrated at this is exactly the negative attitude you don't need.
Focus on your own gameplay and your own way of playing, whether this means picking a hero that's perfectly suited to you, or picking one that will perfectly compliment your teams comp. If you focus on you, and play amazingly on your own, you might just be able to lead your team to victory, and if not? well you gained knowledge on what to bring to the next match.
CHECK OUT GREAT OVERWATCH PLAYERS ON TWITCH AND YOUTUBE
A really simple way to improve your skill and raise your SR is by watching the pros in action. If you're not working with them to help boost your score with a CarrySquad product then watching these players on YouTube and Twitch is a really helpful tip that can give you those insights you would never have thought of, and make your movement pop. Players like Kabaji, Profit, Dafran are perfect examples.
